President Biden must not be feline optimistic about his paltry poll numbers, particularly after his landmark Build Back Better Act died on the Senate floor. But he’s finally delivered on one campaign promise: he’s got a cat.
The First Family circulated pictures of Willow, a two-year-old gray and white short-haired tabby cat, on Friday morning.
According to Politico, Willow first met Jill Biden “when she jumped on stage and interrupted her remarks during a 2020 campaign stop.”
The New York Times reports that “Willow is named after the first lady’s hometown, Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.” The cat hails from western Pennsylvania, which could prove useful for the Democrats as they try to claw back some credibility in the run-up to the midterms. The Dems may be hoping Willow will help them snatch Pat Toomey’s Senate seat by a whisker. Cockburn thinks they’re kitten themselves.
“Willow is settling into the White House with her favorite toys, treats and plenty of room to smell and explore,” Biden spokesperson Michael LaRosa told the Times.
It is unclear at this point what effect the new Biden cat will have on inflation, supply chain issues, the Omicron variant, unemployment, Critical Race Theory in schools, the porous southern border, the Taliban, the Ukraine or the president’s cognitive abilities.
Willow’s introduction to the West Wing is the latest chapter in the Biden pet saga, where turnover is almost as high as in Kamala Harris’s office.
When Sleepy Joe was running, he got a second German Shepherd, Major, a rescue, to accompany his older dog Champ. But Major proved unsuited to the pressures of high office, and was shipped off to a farm after snapping at White House staff and Secret Service agents… sound like anyone else we know?
After Champ passed away and Major was exiled, the Bidens got a new, better-trained German shepherd called Commander.
Presumably Willow’s arrival is meow-sic to his ears.
