If there is one celeb to not rally behind right now, it’s Kanye West. Over the past few years, the rapper’s mental health has steadily declined and his outbursts have become more regular. As he becomes more unhinged, friends who used to come to his defense have realized it’s in their best interest to quiet down.
Yet in spite of all that, Cockburn can’t help but notice that House Republicans have embraced Kanye.
A tweet, which somehow has not been deleted, was posted on Thursday by the House Republicans Twitter account. It reads, “Kanye. Elon. Trump.” Not only was the tweet ratio’d within minutes — with quote tweets such as “who are three people we really don’t need to hear from ever again?” — but it sparked fresh controversy after Kanye was suspended from Twitter over the weekend for saying he was going to go “death con 3 On Jewish people.”
Looks like ol’ Cockburn was right to have his doubts.
What Cockburn does find surprising is that the GOP either doesn’t do its due diligence before jumping on celebrities, or it just doesn’t care.
Kanye’s last few years have been bad enough that the Republicans ought to know they shouldn’t relish his endorsement. In fact, most people in Kanye’s sights wish he was staying the hell away from them.
His antisemitic tweets are just the latest in a long line of controversies, including his “White Lives Matter” T-shirt at Paris Fashion Week on Monday and the fact that he’s spent the last year harassing his ex-wife, her family and her new boyfriend. I mean, Cockburn must admit he is a fan of Kanye’s music, but anyone with eyes can see he’s batshit crazy.
Former View host Meghan McCain has the right of it when she says, “Conservatives always claim to hate celebrity but jump and get excited like a teenage girl at a Harry Styles concert any time any of them show our side attention. It is pathetic, we are suppose to be anti celebrity and for the average working men and women — but I guess that went out the window years ago.
Ye’s full tweet reads: “I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also.” He then posted a photo of himself with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg that read: “Look at this Mark. How you gone kick me off Instagram?”
Cockburn thinks that whatever intern is running the GOP’s Twitter account should probably start updating his résumé. Or maybe he’s just off for the long weekend and all the boomers in the office don’t know how to press delete.
