In front of the whole world, Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas threw the Border Patrol agents he oversees — and our country’s reputation — under the bus.

Now, two leading border chiefs are ushering the DHS secretary toward the exit. Mark Morgan, head of the US Border Patrol under Barack Obama, has dubbed Mayorkas “the most dangerous man in the Biden administration” and is calling for his impeachment.

Morgan also slammed the DHS head for choosing “to withhold the truth.” Former ICE director Tom Homan is equally blunt: “He should resign.”

At a White House press conference last year, Mayorkas repeated a false story peddled by the left — and by President Biden himself: that photos of Border Patrol agents ushering Haitian immigrants across the Rio Grande River near Del Rio, Texas, showed the agents “whipping” the immigrants.

Hours before the press conference, though, Mayorkas learned that the photographer who took the photos didn’t see the agents whipping migrants and that the photos were “misconstrued.” Rather, as Fox News reports, the photos depict agents “using split reins to control their horses as migrants rushed across the river.”

Despite receiving evidence to the contrary, Mayorkas said at the press conference, “In the midst of meeting these challenges, we, our entire nation, saw horrifying images that do not reflect who we are, who we aspire to be, or the integrity and values of our truly heroic personnel in the Department of Homeland Security. The investigation into what occurred has not yet concluded. We know that those images painfully conjured up the worst elements of our nation’s ongoing battle against systemic racism.”

The Spectator spoke to Morgan, who served as chief of the US Border Patrol in the Obama administration, was acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and worked for twenty years in the FBI. Morgan is currently a visiting fellow in the Border Security and Immigration Center at the Heritage Foundation.

The former CBP chief did not mince words:

We already knew [Mayorkas is] the most dangerous man in the Biden administration; a known liar; and chief architect of Biden’s open border policies — killing Americans and migrants every day and jeopardizing our nation’s safety and national security.

Now we know he’s a scumbag as well!

And to make it worse, the secretary now, after being called out, is letting others speak on his behalf when he had no problem speaking for himself as he vilified the Border Patrol agents — knowing it was a lie.

If he knew it was a lie two and a half hours before his press conference, why in hell would he utter anything about the image conjuring up racism? How can something that did not happen conjure up anything?! It happened here because the White House wanted it to be true. It was the distraction they needed to deflect the unmitigated disaster they created in Del Rio which they could no longer deny. By his words he continued to add fuel to a false narrative. A lie we now know he knew was a lie.

Why didn’t he simply say that he was just informed the photographer who took the pictures is saying Border Patrol agents did not whip anyone? That they were directed to be there; that the conditions were untenable; and ask for everyone to step back, stop jumping to conclusions, as we continue to gather facts as the investigation plays out? To facilitate truth-finding and calm rather than throw gasoline on a fire.

Armed with the truth, rather than provide the benefit of doubt to those entrusted to his charge, he chose to withhold the truth and insinuate the agents were racist. He has lost all trust in the rank and file. He is and remains the most dangerous man to our nation within this administration. When the Republicans take back the House they should begin impeachment proceedings on day one!

It’s exactly why the National Border Patrol Council is calling for the secretary to resign and saying he’s not fit to lead Border Patrol agents.

He had a choice — he chose to intentionally omit a key piece of evidence that he had. An essential piece that would have immediately derailed the false narrative and driven the rhetoric down. The issue would have all but gone away at that press conference. He could have done that!

He chose a disgusting partisan path — and threw away the agents as collateral damage. That man is a danger on many levels.

Tom Homan, who served as the acting director of US Immigration, Customs and Enforcement in the Trump administration, echoed Morgan’s sentiments. “He should resign,” Homan told The Spectator. “What he did was not only put the entire Border Patrol agency under attack; he slandered several law enforcement officers and by knowingly slandering them, he also affected their families who have to deal with the fact that the president, vice president and secretary all connected the incident to racism.

“It was a sad attempt to change the narrative of this administration’s failure on the border to this incident. He needs to resign or be impeached.”

Secretary Mayorkas has yet to offer public comment on the email revelations.
